OFF THE HOOK NASHVILLE REVEALS NEW LOGO AND ANNOUNCES MARCH PERFORMERS

In addition to being known as Music City, Nashville is arguably the Songwriting Capitol of the World with it’s large population of songwriters. You can hardly turn a street corner without bumping into a venue that features songwriter rounds, in which three writers, in turn, share three original songs from their catalog, then clear the stage for the next three. Most are showcasing their work, without compensation, in hopes of being heard by industry professionals seeking new songs for their recording artists.

As prolific as these rounds are in town, there are surprisingly few live shows that feature original music entertainment. There’s The Doyle and Debbie Show, the legendary Grand Ole Opry, and shows featured on The General Jackson Showboat, such as Hot Country Nights, but that is about it. Realizing this, singer-songwriter Jim Aycock created a new and completely original writer’s show, OFF THE HOOK NASHVILLE- DUELING SONGWRITERS, which debuted in December 2013 at The Silver Dollar Saloon, downtown. After a limited run there, Off the Hook moved to legendary writer’s venue, Douglas Corner Cafe, where it has enjoyed a long and successful run performing monthly. “Our show is unlike any other in Nashville..or elsewhere, for that matter.” states Aycock, who also hosts the show. “ ‘Off the Hook’ is an instant songwriting show. It’s like the popular comedy improv show ‘Who’s Line Is It Anyway?’ only with guitars! Four of Nashville’s best songwriters compete by writing short, entertaining songs on-the-spot that are based on suggestions from the audience and myself. It is truly amazing to watch our writers pull never before heard songs out of their heads, as well as other places. They are truly flying by the seat of their pants without a net. It is ninety minutes of non-stop laughter!” Not only are OTH writers paid for their performance, which is almost unheard of in Nashville, they also compete for a cash prize of $100 each show, determined by audience applause.

Cynthia Aycock, Off the Hook producer, is excited about the March 7, 6pm show at Douglas Corner. “We are unveiling a new logo for the show, designed by Natalie Phillips and Jack Cottle, which we feel better captures the spirit and direction of our brand. It looks great and, like our show, is a one-of-a-kind original!”, she exclaims. “We have reduced our cover from $10 per person to $5 because we really want to pack the room this Saturday. The snow and ice will be gone and the weather is going to be abundant sunshine with highs in the 50s so our show is the perfect cure for cabin fever. And, with a laugh-filled 7:30pm finish, you still have time to schedule dinner and other entertainment. A real night on the town in Nashville!”
