The Exit/In began its role as a Nashville music venue in 1971 and since then has hosted some of the biggest names in the music industry. Musicians like The Police, Johnny Cash, Jimmy Buffett, Billy Joel, Sheryl Crow, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and countless others have performed on the stage at The Exit/In. Memories have been made within the walls boasts it’s website, and Kevin Costner & Modern West's performance at Nashville's famed Exit/In on Saturday April 14th logged one more night to add to the books. Costner, who is better-known for his movie career than for his music with Modern West, is a very credible singer/songwriter and charmed the crowd with his demeanor and intimate style. His comfort with the audience emulated that of songwriters in the round, a familiar storytelling and sharing of the meaning of the lyrics that you would experience in Music City.
Nashvilles very own, Sara Beck was given the spotlight during the accoustic opening set. She has been on tour with Modern West and also has vocals on the group's Turn It On album. The band took the stage close to nine o'clock Saturday night and in a very simple, casual manner, Kevin Costner & Modern West delivered an energetic show to the eager crowd with the performance of well-written songs that did not dissapoint if you based it upon the cheering and applause. The sellout crowd filled the venue to support the wrap of the spring tour for Kevin Costner & Modern West
The crowd was not the only one in the house who was having a great time, as Costner introduced his daughter Lily, who sang lead on a couple of songs by her father who beamed with pride at her side.
The evening held a diverse collection of songs from the solitude tunes of the Civil War era which brought both Lily and Beck back to the stage for lead performances accompanied by Costner as well as some of the songs from the forthcoming Famous For Killing Each Other project by Costner; a concept album about the Hatfields and McCoys which is to be release a few weeks before his miniseries Hatfields & McCoys airs over Memorial Day weekend.
