Jaclyn North Wins Country Showdown National Final!

It was a great show! Greg Scudder, Kendall Phillips, Reggie Shaw, Carin Mari and Jaclyn North all put on some great performances. But at the end of the evening, the judges decided that Jacklyn was the winner.

Born and raised in Garland, Texas, Jaclyn loved sports and was a huge fan of Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez of the Rangers. At age four, her dream was to one day be a catcher for the Rangers. As soon as she was old enough, she began playing as a catcher for a local fast pitch softball team in Mequite, TX. She desperately wanted the number seven jersey like Rodriquez wore, but the number was taken by the Coach’s daughter so the closest number she could obtain was the number eight jersey. Because of her out-going and motivational personality, the team called her ‘crazy-eight”. Little did she know that the competitiveness of sports would one day assist her in building her own successful career plan in music.

While Jaclyn got her first set of drums at age five, it was at age 14 that she truly realized her destiny. She was sitting in a movie theater waiting to watch Spiderman when she heard a voice singing that would change her life forever. Wynonna’s voice took her breath away and inspired her to develop her own singing style and pursue a career in music. As Jaclyn began to perfect her style, she began singing at the Garland Opry, where LeAnn Rimes performed in her early years. At age 16, Jaclyn appeared in the premiere production of country singer Larry Gatlin's musical Look Homeward, Honky Tonk Angel. She moved to Nashville shortly afterwards. She began her Showdown journey competing at the KHOZ local contest. Perhaps there were some in the audience that night that were already convinced Jacklyn had what it took to take home the Grand Prize. However many "believers" there were that evening in Arkansas, there numbers were dramatically increased last night in Tennessee!

Congratulations, Jaclyn! As the Country Showdown Grand Prize Winner, you join a distinguished list of artists who've gone on to do some great things in Country Music. We'll be watching your star rise as you continue to add to your list of "believers!"
