Gary Morris during a mentoring session for the cast of Les Miz at Hume Fogg. Gary performed and talked to the kids about what it takes to keep your voice strong for such a production.

This is the first time that I know of, that a high school has undertaken such a grueling and ambitious production. Complete with professional costumes, a revolving stage ( graciously lent by Harpeth Hall) this award winning classic demonstrates the talents of a stellar Hume Fogg cast of students.

From the director Daron Bruce:
"We are very lucky to have Gary Morris speak to our cast at rehearsal this coming Wednesday, October 13. Mr. Morris is probably best known for his original recording of "Wind Beneath My Wings," which won both the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music Song of the Year Awards. At the height of his Nashville recording career, Morris boldly accepted the heroic lead role of Jean Valjean in "Les Miserables," on Broadway. Receiving resounding critical praise, including a Drama Desk Best Actor nomination, his performance set the standard for this challenging role. Morris' famous rendition of "Bring Him Home" can be found on the platinum-selling Grammy Award-winning International cast album."

Director: Daron Bruce:

  • Les Miserable -This epic story recounts the struggle against adversity in 19th century France. Imprisoned for stealing a loaf of bread, petty thief Jean Valjean is released from his 19-year term and not only becomes and honest man, but the mayor of a prosperous town and a loving adoptive father - violating his parole in the process. The relentless Inspector Javert, who makes a decent life for Valjean impossible, consequently pursues him. Only years later, after Valjean proves his mettle during a bloody student uprising and saves the life of a young man hopelessly in love with Valjean’s adopted daughter, does the ex-convict finally feel fully redeemed.
